Do you like Buick muscle cars? How about a 1972 Buick Riviera GS Stage 1 boat tail that's both show and go! Not only can you take this bad boy to the local cruise or car show, but it's ready to burst down the quarter mile in 11.5 seconds @ 119mph. A great 7.50 1/8th mile car, pro bracket racer, or even the ultimate sleeper for those late night street battles. With a numbers matching original 455 Stage 1 block, which is the only original piece under the hood. It's now sitting at 494ci pushing out 670hp ad a whopping 707ft lbs of blacktop wrinkling torque! This ultimate beast is the definition of being unique and one of a kind. Stage 1 455 numbers matching block, but that's about it due to this beast of beasts being totally re-done in just about every way imaginable by the southeast's premier engine builder, Al Moody. Bored and stroked to 494CI and attached to a professionally built freewheeling Cohn transmission with everything meticulously gone thru and freshened up. The engine has about 50 passes on it before it was just freshened up and by the way; it's NEVER had any Nitrous. Many TA parts including aluminum Stage 2 ported heads, polished TA intake, with a Quick Fuel 1050 carb with annular Boosters resting on top. Engine block reinforced with a TA block girdle and it was short filled for extra strength. TA solid lifter 284/294 cam, TA roller rockers and a TA stroker crank. Meziere electric high flow water pump, a belt driven vacuum pump, aluminum radiator and a complete MSD 6A set up. TCI 11" Street Dominator 2500 convertor, B&M Pro Stick shifter with a reversed pattern manual valve body. Long large tube headers that mount up to a very beautiful sounding and efficient 3" x-pipe Exhaust system, with cut-outs, that flow thru single chamber Flowmaster mufflers. Large trunk mounted fuel cell with all the best plumbing and a trunk mounted electric fuel pump. The red top battery has also been re-located to the trunk and sits in an NHRA approved battery box and cut-off. Custom Ram-Air designed by Air Inlet Systems out of Hamilton Ontario Canada with 4" box and tubes that breathe thru the center headlamp holes. Ford 9" rear end, 4.11 gears with locker, Moser axles, reinforced nodular case and all HD parts including large studs that was built to be indestructible. 90/10 QA-1 shocks up front and back and the sway bar has been removed. This beast weighs in at an unbelievable 4800lbs with no lightening to the vehicle at all other than the removal of the A/C system. With all that weight, one would think that lifting the front wheels off the ground at launch would be impossible but yet this one does and what an unbelievable site it is to see! Professionally restored by owner of more than 14 years, the two tone charcoal gray metallic and black PPG urethane paint was sanded and buffed to absolute perfection to show off the laser straight body that has never had a spot of rust its entire life. The under-carriage is just as nice and well taken care of as the body and interior of this vehicle. Sporting the exceptional original black leather interior that's still in nearly perfect condition. The front seats are out of a '70 GS stage 1 and the carpet was custom done with matching floor mats with the Buick logo stitched in. New leather wrapped aluminum Grant steering wheel also sports the Buick logo horn cap. Autometer Sport Comp tach with record and playback along with added oil temp and pressure, volt and water temp gauges. A 6pt. roll bar along with Simpson 5pt racing harness keeps you safe and secure. All chrome and stainless on the car is near perfection as well. Sitting on 15" polished Torq-Thrust wheels wrapped in Goodyears with Goodyear Drag Radials out back. This car is being sold with an extra set of Goodyear slicks and Hoosier Radials, both already mounted on matching Torq-Thrust wheels. Come test drive this awesome car and you'll want to go straight to the track to open her up and see just what this beast can do! Boattail 1990 Buick Riviera - concept car
"Faced with slumping sales, Buick briefly flirted with a radical departure from their stodgy image in 1987, when the Board of Directors secretly commissioned Jerry Hirschberg - the original head designer of the powerful & highly-styled 'Boattail Riviera' - to 'reinterpret the classic boattail design and usher in a new Golden Era for Buick.' Working under a non-disclosure policy so strict it was "pretty much a secrecy oath," Hirschberg spent nearly two years on his design - which maintained the trademark 'boattail' rear end while adding futuristic flourishes, including a scooped grill and daring wheel skirts. When it was finally unveiled to the Board in 1990, the proposed "re-energizer" of the Buick brand was hugely controversial - and it is not hard to see why, with its gas-devouring, old school 455 V8 and unique styling that many on the board condemned as "beyond comic book." When the building that housed the only '90 Boattail prototype - as well as all the related plans and drawings - went up in flames, the supporters of the neo-boattail suspected arson. However, no investigation was ever launched. With the project mired in controversy and now hopelessly behind schedule, the experiment was left behind. Instead, Buick continued on the safe and staid course that had been its path for the last couple of decades - ever since the last of the boattail Rivieras had rolled off the assembly lines in 1973."
