U.S. Spec. MkIV VW GTI 1.8T Top Speed Run on Autobahn
This vid was taken en-route from Kaiserslautern to Schweinfurt, Germany on Autobahn 6. My buddy and were rocking out to some old-skool metal and rock and found ourselves in a nice stretch of Autobahn with no restrictions (white circular sign with 4 slashes), so we decided to pull out the camera and see what my car could get up to. The car is a U.S. Spec. VW GTI 1.8T with mild modifications: Revotechnik Stage 1 ECU reflash, Custom Intake, Custom Large-Capacity Side-Mount Intercooler, and Custom 3" turbo-Back Exhaust. Tires on my car are a set of Continental ExtremeContact DWS ZR-rated, tires with a speed rating of 168mph, which where purchased from TireRack.com prior to the car being shipped from Seattle, WA.
I found that at around 140-143ish, the car seemed to stall out, despite being full-on the throttle. With a rev limiter of 7400rpms, my conclusion is that the car reached the limit of air-resistance to the point that there wasn't enough power to accelerate any further. Look it up on Wikipedia for a better understanding of how power requirements to overcome wind-resistance quadruples with increased speed. Enjoy!
