The story began back in the early 60's. Ford wanted to dominate all the branches of motorsport, and to win the famous 24 hours of Le Mans, they decided the easiest way would be to buy Ferrari, which had an inpressive and unchallenged streak of wins in this race.
But Enzo Ferrari came up with loads of new conditions for the sale all the time. The deal turned sour and after some time, Ferrari closed the negotiations.
Henry Ford II was furious! He ordered his best engineers to: "Create a car that would crush the red italians!"
After two years of developement, testing, failure and improvement, the GT40 dominated Le Mans in 1966, with both first, second and third place being taken by this incredible machine.
But it didn't stop there, all the three folowing years, the GT40 won the Le Mans, securing it a place in all proper gearheads hall of fame.

This is five-time LeMans winner Derek Bell behind the wheel of a 1966 model GT40 Mk.I built by Pathfinder Motorsports doing a demonstration run at Sebring International Raceway's 24-hour course. Derek, also a former Formula 1 driver, is driving with a passenger who won a charity demo drive. Filmed during the HSR Sebring Fall Classic Races on December 6, 2009, this GT40 won the US Vintage Grand Prix in its class and later won the New York Governor's Cup Race. It is a continuation model built by Superformance and is chassis number GT40P/2090. It is registered in the Safir GT40 and Shelby Registries. Almost two years after the last testdrive I am able to drive the car again. Now the chassie is finally assembled and it´s been very hard work during these two years. Now I can concentrate during the winter to finalize the body so it will be ready for next summer

I spot this vicious facroty 5 shelby cobra in Wrentham, MA. the owner was really cool, and as you can see from the video, offered me a ride in his beast of a car! i love the way this V8 gurgles when he starts up, then how it backfires after he accelerates down that straight!
