Listen close and you can hear that 5000hp Cat growlin. PART I.

An empty Utah Rwy train has just left Martin. The third unit is a MK5000c with 5000hp of CAT V12 3612 in its hood. Turn it up and listen close, and you can that unit growling. Bet they would sound good with a 3 unit set. MK was the first to build a high horsepower locomotive, with GE following about a year later with a 6000 hp locomotive. In 2001, Utah Railway returned the units because of main bearing failure. The 3612's where pulled out, and replaced with prime movers from retired UP SD50's. There where returned with one less cooling fan (3 instead of 4) and 1500 hp less, and classed as SD50-3. More great sounds are in PART I when the train returns to Martin and prepares to head out to Soldier Summit with 36000+hp. Video taken April 2001. Thanks for watching. Going thru the gears in a CAT V8 powered 80 ton road train
Only watch this if you like big bore V8s and you've got good speakers with the volume cranked right up! Cab ride on the Nullarbor Plain in South Australia near the roadhouse. Too Little, Too Late, (Starting an Alco on the Fly)
This eastbound Canadian Pacific freight is in trouble. Shot on the climb to Gould Summit in Quebec, in early 1988, we see how the failure of one locomotive can bring a train to it's knees. Just listen to the big MLW's as they stay in "run eight" and watch the "help desk" of yesteryear get the ailing locomotive on the ball again. But, it's too little, too late. Collection of Tim Wakeman shot by Jerry Albertie PS;, "Crank it up!"

CSX, will the locomotive make it with out catching fire???
South bound coal train with CSX 390-277 are at Frisco, TN. The 277 has a fuel leak, and is spraying fuel over the hot Exhaust. We didn't see it, but its just a matter of time before it starts burning. ONR's 2000hp v16 Caterpillar powered locomotive. FP7. 9/16/1999
Ontario Northkland's south bound Northlander are seen just south of Englhart, New Liskard, Latchford, and Temagami, Ont. According to Wikipedia. They where rebuilt in 1997 with a v16 3615 Cat with 2075 hp. The smoothing running 2000 hp Cat makes less noise than the power car. The problem is, we photographed and road behind units 2000 & 2001 in September of 1996. So much for the 1997 rebuild. 9/16/1999 Thanks for watching...
