Removal of the head is recommended before any grinding or polishing to ensure none of the filings make it into the cylinder bore and cause damage to the cylinder walls.

Replacing the plastic plenum (intake) manifold (Buick 3.8) with a metal (OEM) one from GM. The metal plenum can be found on most Oldsmobile with the 3800 TPI engine.The plastic intake plenum are more likely to leak air or coolant into the induction system. Coolant leaking into the cylinder will cause the engine to Hydro lock (damage). when the plastic intake leak air. it will cause a Lean condition. A leaky intake manifold will also affect the O2 (oxygen) sensor performance by contaminating the sensor. An intake leak will display many codes. replacing the sensor recommend by the scan tool will not fix the condition if the plenum continue to leaks.
