Buick 3800 Bearings or Lifter or Rod Knocking with Valve Covers Off
Here is a longer video of the 1990 Buick Lesabre with major engine trouble.
Hopefully this can be of use if someone can definatively identify the
issue so that others who have a similar situation know what is going on
with their engine. As for me, I know this engine is trashed. A new one
will be arriving soon for the amount of $150 :)
Checking rod end play buick 3800
Checking out the connecting rods on the crank end for excessive play.
This seems to rule out spun rod bearings or similar problems in the bottom
Any ideas for next thing to check?

Friend got this 1986 Fiero SE 2.8L v6 w/4spd manual less than a week ago.

This video describes an easy method of pressing wrist pins into pistons.
This method is better than using a hydraulic press because it doesn't put
stress on any of the components.
Of course, luck would have it that the pin I was pressing for this
demonstration stopped short because I didn't have everything lined up
perfectly, so it snagged and the rod cooled before I got it the whole way
through (like I said, you have to work QUICKLY! :) No big deal though.
The particular piston/rod set I was working on at the time was a set of Evo
9 pistons and 1G 4G63 DSM rods to be put into the block that is seen behind

GM 3.8 Intake Manifold replacement. Removal the fast way WITH NOTES
this is the "Flat Rate " way to do a 3.8 liter upper and lower intake
manifold set. as you see it is not necessary to take off he serp belt,
alternator or tensioner assembly to remove the lower manifold. I recomend
having someone help when it is time to reinstall the manifold because it
can be tricky to lien up the coolant elbow and not mess up the lower
gaskets when reinstalling. Note that it is recomended to disconnect the
negative battery cable when doing any major repairs. This video is just to
show some guys that said that a lower manifold cant be pulled in way less
than 20 minutes, I know that I went over that , but I had some stuborn
injectors and Im a little out of practice. If you are going to do this
yourself and you are not a professional I recomend that you follow the
procedure in a service manual
How To Replace The Intake Tensioner Coolant Elbow 1992-99 Buick Lesabre
If you are slowly loosing coolant look at the passenger side of your engine
between the coils and alternator. You will see a small plastic elbow that
is prone to cracking and gasket or O ring failure. If your engine
antifreeze is leaking from this location you will need to replace your
coolant elbow. This video is applicable to the Buick LeSabre, years 92, 93,
94, 95, 96, 97, 98, and 99.
Engine Coolant Thermostat replacement 3800 V6 engine - Pontiac Bonneville P0128 OBD II Code repair
My check engine light came on in the fall of '09 so I had the code pulled.
It was P0128- Coolant Thermostat (Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat
Regulating Temperature). I decided to check and replace the thermostat. It
was the problem and has been fine since. Overall the job took about 45 min
to 1 hour including draining, warming the engine, and refilling the cooling
system. It was a pretty easy fix. This problem causes the engine to run too
cool because the thermostat is stuck open, causing more coolant to go
through the radiator than necessary. Ignoring this problem causes the fuel
mixture to be too rich, which will cause poor fuel economy.
