Test Driving 1969 Plymouth Road Runner 383 V8 4 BBL Four Speed
I thought you'd like a look at this 1969 Plymouth Road Runner in action. It's powered by a 383 V8, with an Edelbrock intake, 4 BBL carb, coated headers, and Air Grabber induction. All the power is being funneled through a hurst shifted four-speed manual back to an 8 3/4 rear. This car runs out strong and it's in absolutely immaculate condition. It's as clean in the engine bay and underneath the car as it is on the outside. The interior looks showroom new as well. This car is a proven show winner as well. I hop you find it interesting....thanks for watching! 1970 Plymouth RoadRunner 440 6 pack
1970 brought new front and rear end looks to the basic 1968 body, and it would prove to be another success. Updates included a new grille, leather seats, hood, front fenders, quarter panels, single-piston Kelsey-Hayes disc brakes (improved from the rather small-rotor Bendix 4 piston calipers of '68 - '69 ), and even non-functional scoops in the rear quarters.[1] The design and functionality of the Air Grabber option was changed this year to increase both efficiency and the "intimidation factor". A switch below the dash actuated a vacuum servo to slowly raise the forward-facing scoop, exposing shark-like teeth on either side. "High Impact" colors, with names like In-Violet, Moulin Rouge, and Vitamin C, were options available for that year. The 1970 Road Runner and GTX continued to be attractive and popular cars. The engine lineup was left unchanged although a heavy-duty three-speed manual became the standard transmission, relegating the four-speed to the option list along with the TorqueFlite automatic. This was to be the second and last year of the Road Runner convertible, with only 834 made. These cars are considered more valuable than the 1969 version due to a better dash, high impact colors and more options including the new high-back bucket seats shared with other Chrysler products which featured built-in headrests. The relatively popular 440 Six Barrel was relegated to option status for 1970. The 1969 "M" Code Edelbrock aluminum intake was replaced by a factory-produced cast iron piece; however, due to a porous casting, there was a recall early in the iron intake-equipped 440+6 run, and these were supposed to be replaced with the more-desirable Edelbrock intake from the year prior. Sales of the '70 Road Runner dropped by more than 50 percent over the previous year to around 41,000 units (about 1,000 ahead of Pontiac's GTO but still about 13,000 units behind Chevy's Chevelle SS-396/454). This would also be the last year of the road runner convertible with 834 total production. Only 3 hemi (R) code road runner convertibles were built. The declining sales of Road Runner and other muscle cars were the result of a move by insurance companies to add surcharges for muscle car policies - making insurance premiums for high-performance vehicles a very expensive proposition. Also, Plymouth introduced another bargain-basement muscle car for 1970, the compact Duster 340 which was powered by a 275-horsepower 340 Magnum V8 which in the lighter-weight compact A-body could perform as well if not better than a 383 Road Runner. Furthermore, the Duster 340 was priced even lower than the Road Runner and its smaller engine qualified it for much lower insurance rates. The Chevy engine comment was a joke.

1968 Plymouth Road Runner
This is one of the nicest restored, documented, numbers matching 1968, 426 Hemi, Plymouth Road Runners in existence today. This car comes with full Galen Govier documentation papers and certificate. We also has a complete photo book showing and documenting this Rotisserie restoration. We have many receipts and Dyno sheets for this car. I must add the transmission is not the original, but correct for the car. It is dated Feb 27, 1968. This car was built on or about Dec. 04, 1967. With that being said, the motor is stamped Oct. 28, 1967. This is the original 426 Hemi RB block that came in this car. Only 840, 426 Hemi Road Runner 2 door coupes were built in 1968. Only 391 Automatics in US. This car is # 22 of 62 built at the St. Louis Mo. plant. This car is Matador Red with Very Rare Silver Interior. The car now has 266 miles on it since its restoration. This is not a car you have seen on TV auctions or advertised anywhere. This is an uncirculated car coming out of an extensive Hemi collection. 1969 PLYMOUTH ROADRUNNER CONVERTIBLE FOR SALE UPDATE SOLD!!
This 1969 Roadrunner bucket seat convertible was purchased new at P-K Chrysler Plymouth in Shamokin, Pa. 17872 on May 21, 1970 a full year after it was built. It was sold to a gentleman that lived, and still does, in Mount Carmel, Pa. about 6 miles from Shamokin, Pa. and the car has been there ever since. The build date on the car was June 17, 1969 at the St. Louis, Missouri plant. The car has 91,636 orignal miles. The car is near all original except for tires, belts, hoses, one repaint, same original color burished bronze metallic and also the drivers side entire quater panel replaced back in 1975 due to a fender bender. The bumpers and all of the trim is original and are very clean. The bumpers do show a little chrome fade but are rust free. The car still retains the rest of it's original sheetmetal and is 99% rust free except for a very small amout of filler used to blend in the driver quarter that was replaced. The power convertible top is the original one and is in beautiful condition. This car is a 2 owner car. I personally know both owners and have talked to them about the history of the car. It was garage kept most of it's life, not all but most, this is the reason for being 99% rust free. Now to the full condition of the car. Again it is 99% rust free. The floors, doors, cowl, rad support, fenders, hood, trunck extentions, inner fender and quarter wells, passenger quater panel and trunk are all original to the car with the exception for the driver side entire quater panel. All of the sheetmetal is rock solid with no rust. The trunk and trunk lid lip has just a very small amount of surface scale which can be sanded down and repainted to be 100%. All the glass is original and in perfect condition. How many convertible from 1969 do you find with the original power top that is in near perfect condtion, with the exception of a broken zipper on the rear glass window. The interior is original and in very nice condition. The seats are in great shape and are tear free. The rear seat that you sit your butt on is black but has a different design because it came out of another convertible. The gauges work except for the gas gauge, the float is not working right. All of the lights work as they should as well as the heater and fan blower motor and the wipers as well as the power top. The rad support and the trunk lip have the vin # stamper into them and match, as they are original. The entire engine, transmission and rear end are totally matching #'s as well. I persoannly checked out every Vin # stamping on the body and drivetrain and ran all of the casting numbers on the rear and engine parts to make sure they are correct and they are. The engine has all of it's original components such as the intake, Exhaust manifolds, carb, radiator, fan, oil pan, valve covers, etc.all original to the car. The car starts right up and idels very nice. The transmission shifts very firm but smooth. I did change all of the fluids and filters in the car. Also I did replace the original water and fuel pumps because they did leak somewhat, but I did keep them as they were from 1969, they go with the car so they can be rebuilt and reinstalled. The VIN read RM27H9G290730 which braks down to 1969 roadrunner convertible with 383(335HP) made in St, Louis, Missouri. I also looked for th build sheet when I got the car and it was found under the drivers seat thats the good news, the bad news is that the vin # for the build sheet that was found reads RM27H9G290728 which was 2 cars before mine at the assembly plant. That car was a red Roadrunner convetible bucket seat car with console but had the same black interior as mine. So the bucket seats were mixed up with mine and I will bet that that car has my build sheet under it's drivers seat. I spoke to the original owner and he had told me that the hubcaps that are on the car ARE the original ones an that the car came with Goodyear polyglass raised white letter tires originally. He also told me that he is 95% sure he has the original window sticker and also has some pictures of the car when he bought it. He told me he will look for them and give them to me to go with the car. Thi is a chance to own a rare piece of Mopar muscle.Plymouth only made 2,027 Roadrunner convertibles in 1969 which was the first year for bucket seats and the convertible option. How many are left? How many are numbers matching? How many still have the original top? How many have all of it's original sheetmetal except for one quater? This is a very clean original car that just need a little here and there like, the paint has some chips and the engine and trnsa need detailing but very little. Any questions please call me(Marty) directly at 570-857-7109. Thanks and have a great day.
