2000 Mercury Mystique Issues

UPDATE:i was searching on google and found a mystique owner that kept record of all the things that happened to his mystique. he mentioned something about an idle air control valve that had something flapping inside and making it hum. if anyone can confirm this, please visit his website WWW.TEDFELIX.COM to read about his experiences and let me know. this car is a Mercury Mystique year 2000, 148k miles on it. was my moms but my dad got a new car and my mom got my dads, and i got my moms. so my mom basically put this car through alot. but this is the only engine issue i have with it, everything else is body work. but when i rev the car to 3000rpms, it makes a loud humming noise that lasts for bout 15 seconds, then stops and the car's idle drops very much. sometimes the car will start humming when i put it in reverse or when its sitting at a red light. what does this mean? what kinds of things should i have the dealership look into?

IAC noise 98 Crown Victoria P71
**FIXED IT** Noise was the IAC (idle air/speed control) valve, I was running a cheap Autozone one which a lot of people warned me not to run. Sure enough it was the cause. I replaced it with a Motorcraft part from Ford for $170 it took about 10 minutes in my driveway and shes been fine since...and idles better :) haha for those wondering, car is a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria P71 Police/Pursuit Package it used to be a New Hampshire State Police car.

How to clean a throttle body and Idle air control valve (iac)
*** PLEASE READ *** In this video demonstration, I show how to get to, remove, clean, and replace the throttle body and idle air control motor (aka IAC) on a 4.2l ford motor. This procedure is the same for any fuel injected vehicle. * * * Check out my website krkvideos.com * * * The vans require removal of alot more stuff just to access the throttle body. A dirty IAC can cause a rough idle. A dirty throttle body can harm performance and cause rough engine operation. When the throttle body or iac is removed a new gasket must be used to properly seal the connection to the intake. GM idle air motors are generally mounted on the throttle body and can be cleaned without removal from the throttle body. This means one less gasket and a lesser chance of creating a vacuum leak. The ford throttle body had a note on it that said it was not to be cleaned because the coating on the throttle blade might be damaged. Thats fine for a new car but that has to be disregarded when working on something that has some miles on it. Subscribe to my channel. * * * Definitions: * * * MAF - Mass Air Flow sensor - Monitors the amount of air the engine is intaking. IAT - Intake Air Temperature - Measures the temperature of the air the engine is intaking. IAC - Idle air control - Controls the amount of air the engine is intaking while it is idling. Throttle body - Responsible for regulating flow of air into the engine as you press the gas pedal. TPS - Throttle position sensor - Tells the computer how far you are opening the blade in the throttle body so it can add more fuel to compensate the added air. * * * Visit krkvideos.com for more! * * * * * * Visit krkvideos.com for more! * * * * * * Visit krkvideos.com for more! * * *

Quick Tip-Throttle Cleaning - EricTheCarGuy
This one goes out to BowlingBallOut who posted a question about a sticky throttle on his Saturn. It was a great question so I decided to make this video in response to it. There are many different configurations of throttle assemblies but for the most part if you have a throttle that is sticking you might be able to fix it using the procedures in this video. I am aware you may not able to purchase spray throttle cleaner in some states now but I'm sure they have some alternative available at your local parts store. Adjust Digital Transmission Range Sensor
If the DTR is not adjusted properly, you will get a no-start situation. To adjust: Put the truck in Neutral Line up the Neutral Marks on the DTR Put the DTR on the transmission shaft Bolt down The DTR is located on the driver's side of the truck, under the floorboard on the transmission. I replaced it on my truck because my transmission guy could not get the old one off as it was corroded to the transmission shaft. This is about a $50 sensor from advance auto parts. You might be able to get it a bit cheaper off of the internet. I believe Ebay did have several when I looked, however I have been on and off of a "deadline" to get my truck up and runnning lol.

Camry Idle Air Control Valve Cleaning
This is my Father's 1999 Toyota Camry with the 3.0 liter V6 (1MZ-FE) engine. About every three years, the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve always gets clogged up causing the car to keep stalling when cold started unless the accelerator was depressed while the engine warms up. It's expensive to replace (someone quoted my dad $300) but I read that a shot of carburetor cleaner down the hole usually takes care of the problem.
