My Old 1988 7MGTE Targa Supra
I wish the camera had a better mic...
One of the last drives in my supra. The sad story: Got the car from a punk
that never told me the water pump was bad. My own stupidity for not looking
at the engine while it was running. Took it for a test drive and loved it
so i got it. It's about a 25 minute drive from his place to mine mostly
highway. Driving it home not paying much attention to the gauges because
I'm psyched that its my first car. Ran 4th gear to redline around 110mph
and saw vague white smoke behind me. i thought it may have just been
running lean. Still not paying attention to any gauges. Make it to my exit
off the highway, put the clutch in and the nightmare begins. The bearing
for the water pump that was bad made the belt come off long ago. The
battery was dead and there was no coolant = shit! Towed it home and saw
that the water pump was so bad that the fan could easily graze against the
radiator. Took it to the local garage who replaced the water pump and all
the pulleys and put a new tank in. (Which also the previous owner never
mentioned that the tank leaked massively if it was ever filled over 1/4
full.) So there went a grand, and then I got a call from the mechanic to
come over and see my car. He started it and within a couple minutes it
completely smoked out a all 4 stalls in the shop. The head gasket was blown
and the head was probably warped too from the extended time on the highway
with no coolant. It had developed a knock. Probably one of the worst
feelings hearing all that. I didn't have the money to rebuild so i
eventually sold it for $800. Bought a truck that ended up having bad piston
rings in it. Ended up having the engine rebuilt on it. I wish i still had
that supra, i would have rebuilt that in a heartbeat if i had the money.
Flubyux2's ma70 mk3 supra turbo with 7mgte, the intro
A video outlining some of the more obvious work I've performed on my car.
Started out as a 100% stock 1989 supra turbo. Had burgundy leather and an auto tranny.
Since then, numerous mods, upgrades and conversions. This was just to
document how the car sits before it goes big single.
