SCCA Racing from Vacavalley in the Mid 1960's. Great Vintage film!
This was shot by an old co-workers father in (I believe) 1965. It's from 8
mm film and has no sound but the video is pretty cool. If you raced sports
cars in Northern Ca. in the 60's, you might be or know these guys. Cool
trailers they used in the day (Towing your car would be as hairy as racing
Formula One at Road America
Here is an onboard video from the 2012 KIC at Road America. The car is a
1997 Jordan with with a Judd engine instead of the Peugeot that it used in
the actual Grand Prix. This was our first weekend with with the car and
were astounded with the performance. There were a few bugs as expected but
we got everything worked out. In front of me is my dad running a Benetton
F1 from the same year, with the same engine. Keep in mind this is not a
professional event, nor am I a professional driver. The only goal was to
have fun and keep the car in once piece. Enjoy!
2013 SCCA Runoffs: Crazy Spec Miata Race with Wreck
Ride onboard with Josh Bilicki during the 50th anniversary SCCA Runoffs
held at Road America. After a pour qualifying session, Josh started 39th
out of 70+ Spec Miatas. After the first 1/2 lap, Josh moved up 10+
positions, until he ran out of room during a wreck and hit another SM
driver. Josh was forced to pit under a full course yellow to take care of
the damaged hood. After rejoining the track in 58th position, Josh charged
back up the field into his final finishing position, 34th.
What happens in the transmission when you double clutch / Heel Toe Downshift???
Trying to do everything in one take is nerve racking, as it's nearly
impossible to do perfectly. Minor corrections: I said the clutch pedal and
throw out bearing are not wear items, I meant not high wear items, compared
to the clutch disk. Also, when I mention buying a cheap car to practice, I
mean if you own a manual transmission track car that is not your daily
driver. Finally, I didn't talk about the syncros. You can do this with
one clutch pedal action, but you make the syncros speed up the intermediate
shaft. When you double clutch, you bring the intermediate shaft up to
speed with the clutch disc, which has more capacity to do so than the
synchros. Minor point, but you will see prolonged synchro life when you
double clutch. Also, it is not the mass of the servo or engine but the
power created by electricity of gasoline that is responsible, but the mass
is responsible for the inertia.
