This is my 1990 Chevrolet K5 Blazer that I transplanted a Cummins 4BT
diesel into. This is just an overview with a little technical detail and a
lot of goofing off, but it may be of some use to someone planning to swap a
Cummins B series engine into something.
93' Suburban 4x4 Cummins 4BT conversion 26 MPG!
The Suburban ran great and had fun driving it. The motor has excellent
torque and driveability. pressure. The Exhaust is a 3" with a basic diesel muffler.
Just took on a 1,900 mile trip and got the best of 26 MPG! That is without
an Intercooler but will get
one soon. Go to 4btswaps.com to see other vehicles like this.
I do not recommend this engine swap for an everyday driver only because of
the vibrations are to shaky. If I were to do it again I would install a 5.9
Cummins. Again, the power and torque were not an issue and the fuel mileage
increase definitely paid off but the vibrations at idle took some of the
fun out of it. Just my opinion is all....
However, I wouldn't hesitate to install a 3.9 in a toy like a jeep.
chevy 3.9L cummins
1984 chevy 1/2 ton with 3.9L cummins turbo diesel engine custom header, he341 turbo from 03 dodge truck, 1999 4L80E trans with

get used for daily driving, built for super cheap (around a couple grand)
1971 Dodge Custom 100 Pick Up 4BT Cummins Turbo Diesel
From the first time I stepped foot into one of these old Dodge trucks I was
sold, and haven't desired to own anything else. I found this truck a few
years back "grazing" in a back yard. Someone had put in a junkyard sourced
318 and couldn't get it running. To make a long story short, I did get it
running, later swapped in a built 360, and then couldn't keep gas in the
tank, so the truck sat. I got this idea from a friend, I had intentions of
putting in a 5.9 Cummins, but without doing some cutting I just really did
not want to do, I decided that was not an option. I sourced the 4BT from a
fellow about 150 miles south of me. My transmission, drive shaft, adapter
plate, stater, and engine alternator, belt tensioner, A/C compressor,
vacuum pump, were sourced from a wrecked 93 Ram 250, that had the 5.9
Cummins. I had to do some custom fabricating on motor mounts (both sides),
I had to move the cross member back 2" to get everything where I wanted it.
This truck originally being a V8 with an Automatic it has 3.23 geared 8-3/4
rear end, coupled to the engine I am now running the Getrag 360. Future
plans are for a higher gear ratio for the rear end, something along the
lines of 2.94, with the gearing, size tires, and gearing of the
transmission, though not a granny geared transmission I take off in 2nd
gear, and shift into over drive around 45 MPH. It's not a drag truck, I
have left all fuel settings on the engine stock. I wanted milage, and
milage I got. Even as the truck sits I get 28 mpg average every day
driving, back and fourth to work, errands, etc. I drive this truck every
day, I completed this conversion just over a year ago, and to date the only
repair I've had to make was to the starter. That kinda sums it up, here you
have it, a 1971 Dodge Pick up, w/ cold A/C, power brakes, and gets 28 mpg
on a diesel re power. Hope you enjoy!!!!

3.9L 4BT Cummins Turbo Diesel Dodge Ram 1500 Dyno
My truck finally on the Dyno. I had a camera inside and
outside the truck, so they're not perfectly synced, but you can see the
pyro (bottom) and Boost (top)
gauges. The turbo is somewhat damaged
wheels and it has 180k miles of texas dust wear on it. I'm switching to a
HY-35 next and will Dyno again when I have a tach
signal to get torque and curves.
