HOW TO: Replace the Front Brakes on a Mercury Mystique (1996 2.5L V6)
Mercury Mystique 1996. Front Pads and Rotors. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I AM NOT A PRO MECHANIC! There were no vids out there showing this small car. It's cheap, fast, and easy. Parts shown in this video will set you back about $85 at O'reilleys or NAPA. You will not need any specialized tools, except for a nice set of Hex sockets or heavy duty Allen wrenches. Not sure what this job would cost at a tire shop but probably over $300??? Doing this for an Escort, or a Contour would probably be the same exact job. It was almost FUN even!

2000 Ford Contour SE
First video ever. Recorded by my lovely assistant on my phone.
This is for those who own one and have no idea how to put the brakes back on after fighting to get them off. It is not a full tutorial as I forgot to record it until I was almost done, but I had to start all over because I didn't do it this way the first time.
It cuts out during the last spring. Basically I had to bend the hook back into place and then press it in with a flat head screwdriver. Then you just tweak the adjuster, position the shoes on the plate with all the springs attached and put the drum on. Of course if you remove the wheel cylinders like I did then you'll have to install them as well. Remember to bleed the brakes. I used a vise-grip on the brake lines to keep the fluid from draining out when I removed the cylinders, that way you don't have to bleed the entire system, just the backs and it only takes a few pumps of the brake pedal to do it.
Calematic Automatic Wheel Chocking or Vehicle Restraint System.mpg
C-Mech is the UK Distributor for the Calematic Automatic Wheel Chock System which has been in use throughout Europe since 1989. Its purpose is to automatically restrain vehicles backed on to a Loading bay whilst a Dock Leveller is being used when loading or unloading. This prevents trailer units being taken off the dock before it is safe to do so and to negate potential problems due to trailer creep (see explanation of trailer creep at the bottom of this page). There are many different methods of Vehicle Restraint of varying complexity and cost but Calematic has various unique features and many examples of maintenance and damage free usage over a number of years.
- Completely flush with yard floor when stowed away so very difficult to damage & ideal when there is restricted room for vehicles turning to reverse on to a Loading Bay.
- Keeps operatives out of potentially hazardous yard area as system is fully automated and triggered by opening & closing the Loading Bay Door.
- Designed to be maintenance free & unaffected by typical Loading Bay debris.
- Unaffected by snow or ice & will even operate when submerged.
- Simple construction with only 5 mechanical parts per chock and no complicated sensors or control system. NO motors, bearings, chains, gears, hydraulics or grease.
- Operated by low pressure compressed air so eliminates potential Health & Safety or Environmental hazards associated with electrical or hydraulic operation respectively.
- Zero trip hazards as there are no surface mounted parts between adjacent vehicles when in use & completely flush with floor level when not in use.
