MAN HydroDrive
Zuschaltbarer hydrostatischer Vorderradantrieb für mehr Flexibilität bei niedrigem Verbrauch und hoher Nutzlast. Mithilfe des zuschaltbaren Vorderradantriebs MAN HydroDrive können Fahrsituationen und Einsatzbedingungen gemeistert werden, die Fahrzeuge mit reinem Hinterradantrieb nicht bewältigen könnten und somit zusätzlich Zeit und Geld kosten würden.
Herzstück der hydrostatisch angetriebenen Motoren ist ein mit der Radnabe fest verbundener Zylinderblock mit acht sternförmig angeordneten Zylindern. In den Zylindern befinden sich spezielle Kolben; auf dem jeweiligen Kolbenboden sind drehbare Rollen angebracht. Diese Rollen stehen im Kontakt mit der wellenförmigen Kontur eines außen umlaufenden Nockenringes. Wird nun der MAN HydroDrive eingeschaltet, setzt eine am Getriebeausgang angeflanschte Pumpe die Radnabenmotoren mit bis zu 420 bar unter Druck. Diese werden dadurch in Drehung versetzt, dass immer abwechselnd nur bestimmte Zylinder mit Druck beaufschlagt werden, während gleichzeitig bei anderen Zylindern das Öl abfließen kann. Bei den unter Druck stehenden Zylindern wird der Kolben nach außen gepresst, die Rollen stützen sich am Nockenring ab und es entsteht ein Drehmoment.
In traktionskritischen Situationen genügt ein Dreh am Sperrenschalter, um die Weiterfahrt zu ermöglichen und Verspätungen und zusätzliche Kosten zu vermeiden. Das heißt, mehr Terminsicherheit und höhere Effizienz. Mit MAN HydroDrive ausgerüstete Fahrzeuge sind flexibel einsetzbar, da sie sowohl auf der Strasse als auch in unbefestigtem Terrain effizient unterwegs sind: Trotz des erweiterten Einsatzspektrums sind Nutzlast und Kraftstoffverbrauch auf dem Niveau eines Fahrzeugs mit reinem Hinterradantrieb. Gegenüber einem Fahrzeug mit konventioneller Allradtechnik ergibt sich eine Gewichtseinsparung von etwa 400 kg. Jeep crash in Moab - Heavy Metal Version
I made it up Potato Salad Hill ok but then tried Mickey's Hot Tub on Hell's Revenge.......BIG MISTAKE! Believe it or not, I only scratched my knuckle. We since have rebuilt the Jeep.......for the second time.........but this time no more weenie stock roll cages! Thanks Poison Spider! I still go to Moab twice a year but now we detour around Mickey's Tub. I just bought a new Rubicon Unlimited, so Brad my son now drives this rebuilt Jeep. Love Jeepin'!

In response to the critics, yes this was before the suspension was moded. This was a trail I have taken many times, the terrain is kind of a packed sand and like snow it can be difficult to see terrain features. I missed my line and got sucked into the deep rut I was trying to cut across. The water ripple effect @ 0:50 is where I parked and got out to access the situation.

A Moab local takes his Ford Crown Victoria up & down Baby Lions Back and through the deep water on the other side. A Jeep is shown first, followed by the unmodified Crown Victoria. Out in a remote local abandoned gravel pit in Northern Michigan for the first time with the new lift on the Jeep. I was very conservative on what and where I went due to not knowing the area and having the majority of it covered in snow. We were a single vehicle out in this area (no one to assist with problems or incidents.)
When the snow melts in is going to be fun to explore.
I leave the trailer hitch in the receiver at all times; I do need to remove it when I am off-road. I was rear ended by a Chrysler 300 about 6 months ago and the hitch stopped him in his tracks with major front end damage on the Chrysler with no damage to the Jeep

My 87 jeep cherokee. I'm playing around in my pond. It is at least 7ft at the deep end. When you get in too deep, the whole jeep floats. Good times. Private property. No pollution. If there was, an oil sheen would form on my pond, and I never got one.
Steam from leaky muffler, lets water into Exhaust, then it burns off
update. Lots more water play caused starter to go out. As soon as I get my ass down to pull n save, I'll do it again. Snow is melting, pond is filling up.
Mods include: Snorkel, cpu relocated and sealed, relays relocated, all diff, trans, and t case vents were extended to the roof. Extended Exhaust to roof. new sealed shifter boot. Sealed tub and firewall. Sealed all water entry points to engine. Sealed distributer with lots of silicone, and multiple tries.. Extended dist vent tube. Many tubes of silicone
