Whenever you have a no start condition when attempting to start your vehicle it's important to make the distinction between "no crank, no start" and "crank, no start" situations as they are treated differently. This video covers what I do when confronted with a 'no crank, no start' situation and in this case it's a worst case scenario so be sure to watch till the end.

Well here it is the first of the Civic engine series, I hope you like these as they are a little 'lighter' than those trucks I've been working on lately.

Diagnosing Starter Problems- EricTheCarGuy
Visit me at: http://www.ericthecarguy.com/
Once again I team up with BBB Industries to bring you the basic steps in starter diagnosis. If you suspect a bad starter you might want to run through these checks before you commit to get a new one, you just may find that you don't need a starter but rather some other issue is causing the no start.

No Start, Diagnostic Basics - EricTheCarGuy
This video is a response to the Honda Main Relay video that I did. I've had a couple of people come to me with questions about no start conditions and how they should go about fixing them. This video is a starting point to a series that I plan to cover on this subject. The point I make in the video over and over is, don't make assumptions. Assumptions get expensive and can frustrate you to the point of homicide, follow these simple tips and it will lead you down the path of success.

Engine Won't Start - No Crank Diagnosis (Troubleshooting Starting System Issues)
In this video I show you how to diagnose a no crank condition on a 1997 Honda Accord but the techniques shown here can be used on any vehicle.
A no crank means when the ignition switch is turned to the start position the starter doesn't crank the engine.
To troubleshoot this issue I cover battery testing with a load tester, solenoid trigger wire testing, and voltage drop testing with a multimeter on the power and ground side of the starter.
I also cover how a relay works, how the starter solenoid works, and explain what the neutral safety switch is and how it's incorporated into different start circuit designs.

Quick Tip-Throttle Cleaning - EricTheCarGuy
This one goes out to BowlingBallOut who posted a question about a sticky throttle on his Saturn. It was a great question so I decided to make this video in response to it. There are many different configurations of throttle assemblies but for the most part if you have a throttle that is sticking you might be able to fix it using the procedures in this video. I am aware you may not able to purchase spray throttle cleaner in some states now but I'm sure they have some alternative available at your local parts store.

I've probably been asked about doing this video more than any with this Subaru and I'm happy to bring it to you now. I did make some mistakes when it came to using the buffer so try and learn from those by not using the terry cloth attachment and also making sure you don't stay in one place too long, otherwise stick to the directions and do stuff by hand, do it fast enough and it will be good cardio.
You can find the Quixx kit that I used at Walmart, Pep Boys, and Autozone in addition to your local auto parts supplier.

Here is the 'uncut' version of the oil change video that I did some time ago, the one thing I wish I had done differently in this video is that I would have shown putting a little bit of oil into the filter before installation as this would help with lubrication during start up.

I'm sure there is more than one way to do this but this is the way that I was taught and it seems to work as intended. The idea is to make sure the engine is fully lubricated before you start it up for the first time as we know all too well what happens to an engine without oil, in fact I forgot to show me filling up the oil filter with oil before I installed it sorry. Feel free to add your tips and tricks in the comments.

I get a lot of questions via email and over at the forum about the steps to take when you encounter a performance issue like my Subaru's hesitation issue and I often feel like I sound like a broken record when I cover the basic steps that I cover when encountering a situation like that. My main point here is that if you have a performance problem and you're going to throw parts at the problem start with the basics before you to off and start replacing sensors that you suspect are a problem, if you don't have evidence of a faulty sensor then don't start there start with the simple tune up items and check for vacuum leaks and air leaks as I've shown here and I believe you'll have better results and save yourself some money in the process. In short the rule of KISS applies, Keep It Simple Stupid.
If you have questions about your own engine performance issues head over to my website and either ask the search function or ask the forum, we'd be happy to help.

How to Find a Bad Wheel Bearing - EricTheCarGuy
How to Find a Bad Wheel Bearing - EricTheCarGuy
Well as I said in the video I shot this some time ago but never posted it. I've been snowed in for a couple of days so I haven't been to the shop to make some new video so I decided to bring this one up from the vault. The idea is to give you some basic information on how to find a bad wheel bearing, replacing it once you find it is another story but diagnosing is the first step.
Now, another way to find out if you have a limited slip is to jack up both sides of the car and rotate one of the drive wheels. If the wheel on the opposite side moves in the same direction you probably have a limited slip differential. If the wheel spins in the opposite direction you probably have a regular differential that is not limited slip.
As I said in the video a bunch of times be careful doing this, use the parking brake and brace the rear wheels with something. I know you'll do the right thing.
Now on to the recommended channels
