BMW E36 Vanos & Tensioners Install part 2
Here is the 2nd part of Vanos & Tensioners where we put everthing back together. I threw out the option of making a homemade dummy tensioner tool for those that wish to try it out, I've used it several times in the past and it works great when your in a pinch.
BMW valvetronic
An illustration of how the BMW VALVETRONIC system works. The technology removes the need for a standard butterfly valve throttle as the intake valve does this job. The valve can be continuously adjusted between 0.0mm and 9.7mm lift. An electronic stepper motor adjusts the potion of the eccentric shaft depending on the engine operating condition. This allows for fully continuous variable valve control.

BMW TwinPower Turbo Engines CGI animation
BMW has released a fancy CGI animation promo for their BMW EfficientDynamics engine family featuring TwinPower turbo.
The video starts off with an android of sorts virtually building an engine. It goes on to demonstrate BMW's "Perfect Cylinder" combustion via turbo, Valvetronic and direct injection technology.
Now this is where things get interesting as the android continues to build a four cylinder engine mounted in a vehicle's engine bay longitudinally. BMW loyalists might want to look away at this part as the android then takes another 4-cylinder turbo and mounts it transversely. This indicates a front wheel drive vehicle, which BMW has already announced, but not without an apprehensive response from purists. They fear the move will dilute BMW's ability to make cars with great driving dynamics - a characteristic the BMW brand has become known for.
The video continues with the modular engine being expanded to 6-cylinder and then it's cut in half as a 3-cylinder and fitted to a new smaller vehicle presumably the upcoming i3.
Audi turbochargers with variable turbine geometry
In all TDI engines from Audi, the turbochargers have variable turbine geometry on the Exhaust side. Variable turbine geometry (VTG) technology builds up torque smoothly and without delay, even at low engine speeds.

BMW TwinPower Turbo and Valvetronic.
BMW Group scores with four, six and eight cylinders at the 2012 International Engine of the Year Awards. A good opportunity to have a closer look at a special BMW engine technology: BMW TwinPower turbo and more closer the VALVETRONIC technology.
HONDA V-Tec Operation
HONDA V-Tec Operation
Describes the operation of the HONDA V-Tec variable valve timing system. Like never seen before, this animation goes into details on the mechanical principle of the V-Tec system. The Honda V-Tec system is a dual setting variable valve timing system. It is meant to give high efficiency and low power at lower RPM and high power and low efficiency at higher RPMs. There have been a few incarnations of V-Tec, which came out in the late 80's, but their principle is the same. See it all here with high quality visual details.
