Watch our video review of the new Porsche 911 Cabriolet.
In the world of the 911, the Cabriolet has never been the traditionalist's choice. Not as good looking as the coupe, or quite as focused, Porsche enthusiasts have always dismissed the drop-top as a car for those who like to cruise rather than drive.
But that's all about to change with the new 2012 911 Cabriolet. Thanks to an extremely clever hood design, the new cabrio is as handsome as the coupe when the roof's up -- and with a stiffer, yet lighter chassis than the old car, it promises to be just as good to drive.

You might think that with four cylinders less than the more powerful W12 model, the new Bentley Continental GT V8 would be inferior, but that's far from the truth.
The new 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, co-developed with Audi, produces 500bhp and 660Nm of torque, which is enough to fire it all the way to 188mph. And as you'll see in our video, you'll have loads more fun in the process.
Not only does the lighter engine sharpen up the steering, but the Exhaust has been tuned for a genuine V8 growl which gives this car a sportier character. And the icing on the cake? It uses 40 per cent less fuel than the W12.

The Mercedes SL has always been a dream car, but it's the range-topping AMG versions that have regularly appeared on the driveways of the rich and famous.
This new SL63 AMG is lighter, faster, more powerful and more efficient than the old flagship, so could it be the best yet? New editor Sam Hardy travelled to the South of France to find out.
The new SL63 AMG is powered by a 530bhp 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8 and has a price tag of around £100,000. Mercedes also offers a Performance Package, which adds another £10,000 to the price, takes power to 557bhp and increases peak torque from 800Nm to 900Nm.

2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet Test Drive & Convertible Sports Car Video Review
http://www.autobytel.com/porsche/911/2013/ The 4th generation Porsche 911 is lighter, faster, and better looking than the previous model. The heritage of this car dates way back to the early 1960's and over the years the 911 has been at the top of the sports car mountain. This 2013 model still retains the same shape but is much more sinister. There are 10 different trims that include: turbocharged versions, coupes, and cabriolets (convertibles). The base price on the 2013 Porsche Carrera S Cabriolet tested here is $108,000.
The engine on the 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S is a 3.8 liter horizontally opposed 6-cylinder that makes 400 horsepower and 325 lb-ft. of torque. 0-60 MPH times are in the mid 4-second range. Fuel economy is 19 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway. The transmission options are a 7-speed PDK automatic or the only 7-speed manual in the world. The manual is not as quick as the PDK but is more fun and engaging.
With every convertible the challenge is to keep the same overall shape the same as the coupe counterpart. Porsche has done a great job and the 2013 911 Carrera S Convertible has a few new features including an integrated wind screen and a 3-panel magnesium roof that can open or close within 13 seconds and can be operated at speeds up to 30 MPH. Porsche employ a soft top rather than a hard top for both weight savings and look. The company has addressed the traditional problems associated with a soft top such as sound and thermal insulation which have been a real problem in the past. Now the top on the 2013 Porsche 911 Cabriolet is an extremely hi-tech piece the remains stable at high speeds while doing a good job at keeping out wind noise.
There are plenty of cars to choose from in the convertible sports car category including the: Mercedes SL-Class, Audi R8 Spyder, Aton Martin Vantage, or the Maserati Gran Turismo. But none of these competing cars are as light nor do they have the 40 years of heritage that the 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet has. This car is a true sports car and is the best of both worlds.

We gave our racing driver and senior road tester Owen Mildenhall two days, one hefty fuel allowance and a brand-new Porsche 911 Carrera S.
The result is this video, which sees Owen put the new 911 through its paces on an empty track at Bruntingthorpe, before heading to north Wales to see how the new 911 copes on wintery B roads.
