The Toyota 4Runner, the fifth generation of this rugged, full-capability SUV, enters the 2012 model year with major audio and connectivity upgrades and available new automatic running boards. A keystone in the Toyota SUV lineup for 27 years, the 4Runner was named "Most Dependable Midsize Crossover/SUV" by J.D. Power & Associates in 2011. A rich leather-trimmed interior comes standard on 4Runner Limited and is optional on SR5. Graphite and Sand Beige fabric is standard on SR5. The Trail models are equipped with graphite color water-resistant fabric seats. For second-row passengers, a sculpted front seat-back shape provides additional knee space. The second-row seats, which include a center armrest, individually recline up to 16 degrees in four steps. Third-row seating features a roomy, supportive seating area. 2012 Toyota Sequoia Test Drive & SUV Video Review

The Sequoia can seat up to 8 passengers, has tons of cargo room, and can tow 6900 lbs. There are 3 models of Sequoia for purchase: the base SR5 costs $40,930, the Limited costs $51,040, and the Platinum costs $58,580. The 2012 Toyota Sequoia comes in either 2WD or 4WD. There are 2 different engines offered on the Sequoia for the 2012 model year. Them smaller engine can be found on the lower model SUVs. This 4.6 liter V-8 engine makes 310 horsepower and 327 lb-ft. of torque. The larger engine is a 5.7 liter V-8 motor that makes 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft. of torque. Both engine comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is 14 MPG in the city and 20 MPG on the highway for the smaller 4.6 liter engine and 13 MPG in the city and 18 MPG on the highway for the larger 5.7 liter engine. On the outside there are a ton of standard features. The bumpers are color matched to the rest of the body. The Sequoia gets standard fog lamps and a chrome grille surround. The stock 18-inch alloy wheels look great but you can upgrade to a set of 20-inch alloy sport wheels which really stand out. The rear liftgate automatically opens and closes. Also the Sequoia comes standard with a roof rack, running boards, and mud guards. On the inside the Sequoia base model gets cloth seating but the Premium models get leather seats that are power adjustable. The standard radio comes with a CD player, Bluetooth, iPod connection, and Sirius XM Satellite Radio. You can upgrade to a great 12-speaker JBL Synthesis stereo system. There is also a touch-screen navigation unit as an option. As stated earlier the 2012 Toyota Sequoia can seat up to 8 passengers. But there is an option which swaps out the middle row seating with 2 oversized Captains Chairs. The Sequoia also comes with power everything as a standard feature. As full capable off road SUVS are becoming increasingly rare on the market today, this is actually the best one you can buy. It may have a slighlty high price tag, but you do get that Toyota reliability and resale value. Inside of the car feels very truck like with a true truck layed out interior, which some people may find attractive in a car. All in all Im glad they kept the 4Runner in their lineup as it is a true 4x4 SUV.

The 4Runner rides more like a truck and thus provides a ton of utility but it is not the most comfortable vehicle on the road. Those looking for a daily commuter should maybe pass the 4Runner up and instead look at the Toyota Highlander. But if you are looking for a capable off-road SUV then the 5th generation 2012 Toyota 4Runner is a great choice. There are 3 different trim levels starting with the base SR5, the Trail, and the Limited. Prices range from $31,090 all the way up to $40,630. The 2012 Toyota 4Runner is powered by a 4.0 liter V-6 Dual VVT-i engine that makes 270 horsepower and 279 lb-ft. of torque. The only transmission offered is a 5-speed automatic. The 4x2 model gets 17 MPG in the city and 23 MPG on the highway while the 4x4 model gets 1 less MPG highway. The 4WD model comes with Active Traction Control and a Torsen limited-slip differential. The 2012 Toyota 4Runner Trail edition has the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System which frees up the stabilizer bar so that each wheel can respond to the terrain individually. KDSS allow the wheels to the freedom to move without restriction maximizing traction while decreasing body roll. Standard on the SR5 model is an integrated towing hitch and associated wiring harness, a power window located in the lift gate, and Bluetooth. Stepping up to the Tail edition gets you an electronically controlled locking rear differential, CRAWL Control, the KDDS systems, and waterproof seats. The top of the line Limited trim adds leather seats, huge 20-inch alloy rims, and dual zone climate control. As far as options are concerned, the 2012 Toyota 4Runner can be had with a 6.1 inch touch screen navigation system, back-up camera, JBL sound system, power seats, automatic running boards and more. Aside from the options there are a few different packages that can be purchased with the 2012 Toyota 4Runner. The Convenience Package adds power seats and a moon roof. The Premium Package adds navigation, power seats, leather, and a moon roof. Then there is the option to add third row seating on top of the Premium Package. On the outside the Highlander is a little bland but Toyota did add some cool upgrades that make it distinct including: a chrome grill, fog lamps, headlights, and 17-inch rims. There are 2 different engine choices available on the 2012 Toyota Highlander. The first engine is the base model 2.7 liter 4-cyliner that produces 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft. of torque. This smaller engine gets 20 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway. The larger engine is a 3.5 liter V-6 that produces 270 horsepower and 248 lb-ft. of torque. Fuel economy is a bit lower with this engine at 18 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway. The Toyota Highlander is a very practical SUV. The 3rd row can fold flat to give you an excess amount of cargo. The 2nd row also folds flat giving you a huge amount of 95 cubic feet of space. The 2012 Toyota Highlander is the perfect middle of the road entry level 7 passenger 3 row SUV. The Highlander does everything well. It is comfortable, drives nice, and gets good fuel economy.
