Honda of the UK Manufacturing New Civic 2012
Honda celebrates the start of New Civic Production and announces 500 new
jobs as Swindon plant doubles production volume
Honda today starts the mass production of the New Civic as normal
production resumes at its Swindon car plant, Honda of the UK Manufacturing
Ltd (HUM), announcing the creation of 500 new jobs to meet a forecasted
production increase in 2012.
Honda Motor Europe President Manabu Nishimae speaking at the ceremony said
Honda remained totally committed to building cars and engines in Europe
with Swindon at the heart of Honda's European manufacturing activities and
this is further demonstrated today with the launch of the New Civic. He
added that Honda in Europe had turned a corner with a significant
production increase expected in 2012.
Announcing 500 new jobs, HUM Director, Andy Piatek said that Car Plant 2
would return to a two shift operation in the late Spring of next year
creating a need for the new jobs in addition to the current 3,000
Associates. Recruitment will start immediately through HUM's dedicated
During his speech to Honda Associates, Honda Motor Europe President Mr
Nishimae acknowledged the workforces' resilience, "The last three years
have been extremely difficult for all of Honda's European operations. We
have faced many challenges beginning with the economic downturn through to
the two natural disasters in Japan and Thailand. Throughout this period
Associates have remained committed and I am extremely proud of how they
have responded to these challenges. We will build upon our new found
strength and remain confident of our ability to achieve and succeed in the
Commenting on Honda's announcement, Prime Minister David Cameron said,
"This is great news and a tremendous Boost to the workforce, the car industry and
UK manufacturing. Honda is contributing to a real renaissance in the UK
automotive industry, we have a highly skilled workforce and we continue to
be at the forefront of new technology and development. Its success is of
great importance to our economy and we are committed to do all that we can
to see this vital industry grow and thrive."
Business Minister Mark Prisk added, "Today's announcement of the creation
of 500 new jobs on the day that production started on the next generation
of the Civic hatchback is a clear demonstration of Honda's continued
commitment to the UK.
"It is a huge vote of confidence in the skills of the Swindon workforce and
the current strength of the automotive sector. The decision reinforces the
message that the UK remains a great place to manufacture high quality
Adding to the new Civic and the already successful Jazz, next year will see
the mass production launch of the new European CR-V along with the
production introduction of a small diesel engine also to be produced at
Swindon. Production volume of cars for 2012 is forecast to double to
Audi Hungaria Motor Kft / Production - Gyor Hungary
http://www.eurocarnews.com - Audi AG - Engine production in Győr already
began in late 1993 with pre-series production. The engine plant was
officially opened in October 1994. In opening this plant, Audi not only
safeguarded its international competitiveness, it also created a strategic
base in Hungary that increasingly gained in importance. Győr now produces
almost the entire range of Audi engines.
Engine production started with the four-cylinder five-valve engine with a
displacement of 1.8 liters, in both naturally aspirated and turbo versions. V6 engines with a displacement of
2.4, 2.7, 2.8, 3.0 and 3.2 liters have also been built at Győr since 1998.
The volume production of 4.2-liter eight-cylinder engines was started at
the end of 1997. By this time, diesel engines with pump-injector technology
were also produced at the Győr site.
The product range was expanded in 2002 with a new generation of engines
featuring FSI gasoline direct injection; the connecting rod production line
for four-cylinder diesel engines began operation two years later. In April
2006, Audi Hungaria brought a particularly powerful engine onto the market
-- the 5.2-liter ten-cylinder gasoline engine with FSI technology. Another
milestone followed that same year: The company presented the Audi Valvelift
System -- a future-oriented, highly efficient and at the same time
surprisingly simple valve-control technology.

Mercedes-Benz plant Bremen: Bremen plant to produce additional model of the
C Class model range as of 2011
• Development as a competence centre: Bremen plant expanding production
operations to include Coupé of the C-Class
• New variant to be produced in addition to the C-Class Saloon, the
C-Class Estate and the GLK as of 2011
• Flexible production: Coupé to be produced with three existing models
on a single line
Peter Schabert, Head of the Bremen plant: "Decision another milestone on
our way to becoming the C-Class competence centre and a clear sign of trust
in Bremen team's capabilities and standards."
Bremen - The Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen is gearing up for the production
of a fourth model of the high-volume C-Class model range. As of 2011, a
Coupé will be added to a flexible production line, which already produces
the three existing models. This will be a new addition to Bremen's current
production portfolio in the C-Class segment, comprising the Saloon, the
Estate and the compact GLK sport utility vehicle (SUV).
"The decision by the Board of Management to produce the Coupé version of
the current C-Class here in Bremen as well represents another important
milestone on our way to becoming Mercedes' competence centre for the
C-Class and is a clear sign of the trust in the Bremen team's capabilities
and standards," says Peter Schabert, Head of the Mercedes-Benz plant in
The Bremen plant is developed into the worldwide competence centre for the
high-volume C-Class model series. Allocating production of the new Coupé
to the plant is in keeping with this strategy. As announced in December
2009, the launch of the next generation of the C-Class at the plant as of
2014 will see production of the C-Class Saloon for markets in Europe
concentrated at a single location together with the production of the other
C-Class model variants.
The Bremen plant is already demonstrating the flexibility of its production
operations by producing three models (C-Class Saloon, C-Class Estate and
GLK) on a single assembly line. The vehicles are able to pass along the
assembly line in any conceivable order precisely as customer orders
require, irrespective of model, variant (right- or left-hand drive,
all-wheel or rear-wheel drive) and equipment. From 2011 the Bremen plant
will be integrating a fourth model into the production process in the guise
of the Coupé, demonstrating the plant's flexibility once again.
Production portfolio of the Bremen plant.
In addition to the models of the C-Class model series, vehicles belonging
to the E-Class are also produced in Bremen, with the Coupé and Cabrio
running in flexible configuration on a single production line. The
roadsters of the SL- and SLK-Class are also produced exclusively in Bremen.
With a workforce of around 12,600, the Mercedes-Benz plant is the largest
private-sector employer in the region.
