Electric Turbo / Electric Supercharger / Forced Induction System: Should I Install?
My friend sent me an electric turbo / electric Supercharger. It appears to be a Bilge Pump, not something I would install in my car. But based on the rated CFM it might actually work. What do you think? Should I install it? Vote in the comments.
Best Upgrade For Your Car, Truck Or SUV: Tires and Rims
Probably the easiest, most fun, and most visible performance upgrades for your car truck or suv is tires and rims. More grip means better handling and faster acceleration.
Plus if you do the upgrade when you need tires anyway, the upgrade doesn't cost very much.
Alta MINI Cooper Hot Side Turbo Boost Tube / Muffler Delete Pipe / Test Pipe Install
MINI Cooper Hot Side Boost Tube
This is a quick easy, reasonably cheap upgrade that could be done with only a flat head screw driver. Making your daily driver more fun with better fuel economy and faster 0 to 60. The MPG gains won't be huge, but if your car breathes better it goes faster and gets more miles to the gallon.
About the Product:
In many cases MINI takes steps to help hide the true soul of a turbo. The Boost tubing is no exception. MINI engineers attempted to remove some turbo and Boost noise by placing of all things a muffler in the Boost tubing. In the same fashion as an Exhaust muffler is restrictive to performance, so is this! ALTA product designers created a simple, attractive way to remove the this muffler and increase performance.
The ALTA turbo Hot Side Boost Tube replaces the restrictive plastic and rubber OEM piece with a 5-ply silicone, fiber reinforced tube. With a mirror smooth interior surface, larger diameter and tapered transitions, you get a dramatic decrease in restriction and turbulence.
By removing the muffler you get a nice mellow tone to the turbo and a leap forward in power. The silicone hose is restriction free with its smooth surfaces and larger internal volume.
With the features listed above you get much better Boost response and more horsepower! According to Alta's Dyno Charts you get 10 WHP and10 Ft-Lbs Torque.
What Is An Intercooler And How Does It Work?
I am going to start offering Intercoolers on Amazon. I have decided this. Nice Shiny Intercoolers, in the size and shape that fit my car. This is the first one. An Intercooler cools the pressurized air that is passing through your forced induction device. This could be a Supercharger or a turbocharger it doesn't matter, the thing is that you want one made of a good conductor of heat. Aluminum is an excellent choice. Silver would be better, Gold would be best. I can't afford a solid gold Intercooler, and if I could I wouldn't put it on my car for fear it would be stolen, so I chose aluminum.
How To Install An Intercooler Upgrade On An R56 Mini Cooper Or Most Other Vehicles
We will start by removing the front grill. You will need a flat head screw driver and/or the
optional plastic interior trim tool. To start use pry the push clips as show in the pictures.
Remove all four of these push clips.
To remove the lower section of the grill from the bumper, gently pull the grill away from the car.
You will then use a flathead screw driver to push the tabs in the direction shown below.
Work your way from one side of the car to the other removing the tabs and gently pulling the
grill away from the car. Once all the tabs have been compressed the grill will be removed.
Once the grill is removed we can start to remove the front bumper. First remove the two Philips
head screws from the fender liner.
Once you have moved the fender liner you can now access the two push clips (on each side)
which hold the fender flair to the bumper. To remove these use the same procedure as the clips
in the front grill.
Once the push clips are removed you can pull the fender flair towards the front and away from
Once the fender flair is detached from the bumper you may unplug the turn signal bulb. This can
be done by pressing the middle of the plug and pulling gently away from the yellow bulb
You can then use a T25 torque bit to loosen the bolt under the fender flair.
Proceed to repeat step 5 for the other side of the car.
Next remove the 3 push clips under the front bumper. If your car is a JCW edition the lower
valance will be slightly different but the mounting points are exactly the same.
Once the push clips are removed proceed to remove the two T25 torque bolts.
Next remove the last two bolts for the bumper. They are the T25 torx bolts.
If your car is equipped with headlight washers you will also have to unclip the hose from your
bumper. This can be done by squeezing the clip as shown below.
You can now remove the bumper slowly while disconnecting the fog lights, turn signals and
outside air temperature sensor as shown below.
Now that the bumper is removed we can start removing the Intercooler.
The bumper fits cleanly against the new Intercooler. With the light plugs
reattached, we can reinstall the clips to mount the front bumper cover followed by the inner
fender liner clips.
The front bumper is reinstalled, followed by the fender flares.
Next we trim two lower clips in the center of the grill to clear the Intercooler and reinstall
Fit the two hex bolts in place of the push type clips in the center of the grill with included fender

Do Electric Superchargers Work? That is a good question and the answer to that question is yes. A real electric Supercharger or electric turbocharger can work. However many people are confused about how these electric Superchargers can add performance to your naturally aspirated engine.
No to be confused with those cheap sheet metal inline fans placed inside a rubber coupler but a real turbocharger compressor being powered by a brushless motor.
Click on the link above to visit the B2B Blog and see the Dyno results for these inline fans for yourself.
Because there are only scams being sold as electric Supercharger the only way to get a real performing blower is to buid it yourself.

Electric Supercharger brushless motor activation. This is an experimental twin 24V electric Supercharger designed to produce 4 to 5 psi of Boost pressure on small V6 engines and 4 cylinder engines. This particular electric Supercharger uses a specially modified snap action micro switch for activation. Plans for this electric Supercharger are still in developement and should be ready soon.

Supercharged home made Straight Eight by Desperate Dan Vid 2
Built in a shed, it fired up first go. I was hoping it would sound real lumpy like a drag engine, but it runs too smooth, and it's too quiet even with unsilenced 9" pipes! The timing was a pain to sort out the Rover distributor runs backwards, I had to take the heads off to work out the firing order!!! See the shed it was built in on Vid 1.
Added May 2012: OK, my nails are dirty, maybe because I'm an engineer & build stuff? Maybe your nails are clean because you can't build eff-all & just sit behind your computer? C'mon folk, get a life.
Electric Supercharger challenge
Students in my High Performance class took on the challenge of testing if an electric Supercharger would increase performance. You can decide for yourself if they are worth the investment. We did not test all makes and brands of electric Superchargers so results may vary based on engine displacement and Volumetric Efficiency (VE)
