2011 Kia Optima Review by Automotive Trends
http://automotivetrends.com/
We have a 2011 Kia Optima in the fleet this week. We also managed a day's reprieve from the rain, so with plenty of battery power in the camera Brandon set out for the track to have a go in the Optima and to bring you the details on why you shouldn't be overlooking the sporty family sedan from South Korea.

Sunday Drive - Kia Optima SX (GoPro Hero)
A nice Sunday drive towards Carnation, WA in the Kia Optima SX. Filmed with one GoPro Hero and edited together to look like one take from multiple angles. This is a video test for an upcoming project.
I experienced a lot of fogging on the lens which I couldn't remove from the video in post without a lot of compression artifacting sneaking in. Need to invest in some anti-fogging inserts for the GoPro.

2011 Kia Optima SX Turbo Review By Cherry Hill Kia
http://www.kiaofcherryhill.com/index.htm
Here it is -- the 2011 Kia Optima SX. This is the penultimate, top of the line version of the already multi-award winning sedan by Kia motors. In my personal opinion, if you were to compare this car to an Acura or BMW or other luxury mid-sized sedan, this car would give them a run for their money -- literally. For me, it's not only the economic value, but the true quality that you get with this car. As a self admitted performance junkie, the SX successfully quenched my thirst for the power that seemed to be lacking in the standard 2.4l motor. They achieved this by dropping a nice chunky 274HP turbocharged 2.0l GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) under the hood. You read correctly, Kia put a turbo on their car, and the results? Some serious "get-up-and-go" combined with very smooth shifting from the 6-speed automatic transmission. (With those fun "flappy" paddles on the steering wheel, who doesn't love that?)
Ok, I already know what you're thinking: "I don't care about any of that, I want a comfortable ride." Well, you will be happy to know that this little performer also happens to ride beautifully. I've driven almost every car in its class and with that, I must say, even with the sports tuned suspension, it rides like a dream. As an added "creature comfort" there is also the heated and cooled leather front seats and heated back leather seats. Both options work extremely well as I found out when I started to freeze through a leather jacket. From an aesthetics perspective, the inside is fitted with very stylish leather/brushed metal accents with just a hint of Carbon Fiber accent, bringing the atmosphere inside to heightened cool factor. I think the "cherry on top" moment for the cockpit is when you look up and notice not one, but two glass windows. Finding out there was a panoramic roof during my test drive was made even better as this had been just happened to be one of the nicest days so far this year. Sometimes it's the small things that make the difference!
On the opposite spectrum of small, the SX version I had the pleasure to drive was fully loaded with all the technology bells and whistles. The dash is beautifully displayed with a large LCD screen in the center, which tells you some nifty things like your average MPG, miles till empty, when your next service will be and so on. The dash continues with a nice swept out shape, which is angled more towards the driver's side for the large touch screen that displays your GPS, SIRIUS satellite radio, and CD player -- all of which is hooked up to a brilliant Infinity® sound system. Most of these controls are nicely mounted on the wheel along with your standard cruise control and Bluetooth. There is more that I could go on and on about as far as the accoutrements inside, but I don't think I'll have space to say it all. Besides, some things you will want to discover for yourself!
From the outside, the Optima SX design is aesthetically pleasing with its aluminum 18 inch wheels and nice lines, including a lovely little lip spoiler at the back. Truth be told, they really haven't done much else on the outside to differ it from any other Optima, until you get to the rear and notice the rear lights which look as if they were transplanted from a Jaguar XF. A very nice look indeed, and even more so here than on the Jaguar it seems to imitate.
But in the end, it all comes down to quality and safety. Considering Kia has the best warranty policy going (5 year/50,000 miles roadside and 10 years/ 100,000 miles power train) you won't need to worry about a thing. Overall, the build quality is great with the exception of some minor items, such as the paddle shifters being plastic, not metal or magnesium as most cars with this "sports sedan" image tend to have. But in the grand scheme of things, that means nothing compared to the rest of the build quality. Safety features are all standard: all wheel disc brakes, ABS, ESC, TCS (all those annoying acronyms) side curtain airbags, front and side airbags, smart seat belts that adjust appropriately and front active headrests. With such exceptional safety and quality in a car that begins at around $27,800, that's pretty amazing. As a former car salesman, I have to say that I haven't seen a car this promising in a long time. Therefore, the 2011 Optima SX get's the official Kyle Sauter nod as an outstanding mid-sized sedan that gives the big boys a run for their money in price.

Kia Optima SX Tour
I've never been a fan of those handy-cam video auto tours with bad sound and shaky video. I thought I would try a picture tour to see if people like it. No bad narration, no shaky video, only nice pictures, good tunes, and interesting statistics/facts.
