Bi-xenon Shootout! Andrew's thoughts on the FX-R, EvoXR, TL, RX350, and LS460 projectors
Andrew offers his thoughts on some of the most popular full-size bi-xenon
projectors available from The Retrofit Source
Morimoto FX-R 3.0: Easily our most popular bi-xenon projector. Reasonably
priced, very compact and easy to work with, pre-installed and optimized
clear lens, amazingly wide, bright distribution of Light
Hella EvoXR: Great open design bi-xenon projector designed according to
Hella's latest OEM alternative. Really popular for direct swaps into OEM
headlights originally made by Hella, but with projectors of a lesser
Acura TL bi-xenon: Monster sized solenoid makes covering this projector
with a shroud a bit tricky. It's an otherwise fantastic performer,
reasonably affordable, and can use the ZKW-R clear lenses for an enhanced
Lexus RX350 Bi-xenon: very compact for such a great performing bi-xenon
projector. Makes good use of the STi-R clear lenses for enhanced output.
Lexus LS460 Bi-xenon: huge, hard to retrofit, amazing performer, looks
menacing. Makes good use of the STi-R clear lenses for enhanced output.
V-Strom Suzuki DL bi-xenon mini D2S projector retrofit headlight
This video demonstrates 2 things:
- Difference between halogen, plug & play xenon and bi-xenon projectors
- How to mount the mini D2S in the housing
The headlight is from the Suzuki V-Strom DL 650 / DL 1000. Originaly it
uses 2x H4 bulbs, which are not known for their superior light efficiency.
In this video we retrofitted the headlight with the mini D2S bi-xenon
projectors. Check the results in the video.

Mini D2S Bi-xenon projector 2.0 (easy install)
This is the Mini D2S Bi-xenon projector! He is the charming brother of the
Mini H1, sharing the characteristic of being small and easy to install in
H4 headlights, without lacking a great performance!
Using D2S bulbs, the projectors are performing really well. The beam output
is similar to the Mini H1 and even slightly better, having a more uniform
spread of light. The high beam looks very much like the OEM Hella E55
Bi-xenon projector. Off course they also have a very sharp cutoff line like
all our HID projectors.
For easy installation these projectors are ideal for H4 and 9003 headlight
housings. Off course they can also be fitted in other headlight housings,
but then the installation will need modification.
Disassemble your headlight, open your headlight using heat and simply
insert the projectors into the original hole of the housing. Mount the
projectors with the included adapter plates and nut. It's automatically
aligned, so then you can close and mount your headlight.
These projectors come standard with GTI-R shrouds with the easy shroud
centric rings. All the shrouds whit shrouds centric rings can fit on the
Mini D2S projectors.

TRS Tips: 7x6 Sealed Beam Bixenon Projector Retrofit How-To
And you thought it wasn't possible! While it may not be pretty looking at
it from the back-side, the beauty of retrofitting is making it work.
Here we took a gigantic Murano Bi-xenon projector, trimmed it up, and
shoe-horned it inside of a tiny & shallow 7x6 generic sealed beam headlight
for a Jeep.
Best of all, we used inexpensive Pilot headlights that were easy to pry
We recommend the Professional size JB Weld Epoxy for this job:
We also used our Apollo 2.0 shrouds and Morimoto xbALed Halos:
