Checking space to fit 35s on a 2001 4Runner (3rd gen)
I took this video when I removed my fender and wheel liner to show how much would need to be trimmed in order to fit 35s. The wheels and tires that are on it in the video are 33x12 on a 16x8 rim with a -6mm offset. You can't see in the video but the 33s already rub on my frame so to fit 35s with my 16x8 -6mm offset rims you would need to:
- Trim and replate the upper A arm at the ball joint back about 3/8"
- Cut and replate at the lower firewall inside the driver's front kick panel 1" back beyond the pinch weld.
- Limit the turning radius by adding material to the bump stops
You may also be able to avoid frame rubbing by adding wheel spacers or getting rims with an even greater negative offset. I'm guessing that you would need to push them out 3/4- 1" beyond what I currently have.
I think you might have to do some trimming on the driver's rear wheel well but I don't think you'll need to trim on the passenger rear wheel well. That should be just a matter of using a cutoff wheel and then repainting.
