The tech said that as he was driving, the "SECURITY" light came on. There did not seem to be any effect on driving. After the road test, he re-started the car without any problems, and the security light was not on. Later on, he started the car again, it ran for a couple of seconds, and then stopped, with the SECURITY light flashing. The car then would not re-start anymore, and the SECURITY light remained on. The information database said regarding the security Passlock, after attempting to re-start the engine, if the SECURITY light flashes or stays on, wait ten minutes with the key in ON until the light goes off. Then, turn the ignition to the OFF position before attempting to start the engine again. This information worked, and the vehicle started. Unfortunately, a few weeks later, the tech said he had to go through the same procedure to get the customer's car started. At this time, the customer said he wanted the Passlock bypassed, and not repaired. Well, I am Robo Tech and don't really get involved with Jerry rigging automobiles. It is beneath my intellect! GM passlock problem
2001 Impala Base 114,xxx miles. Runs & drives perfect, except.... GM replaced BCM computer 9-09. Accomplished nothing. I replaced ignition switch w/NAPA part 10-09-09. Worked great for 2 weeks. Then started having the same ole trouble. I replaced ignition key tumbler switch w/passlock sensor w/NAPA part 10-25-09. No problems until this week 1-13-10. Still doing the same exact thing it was doing before I replaced anything. Hasn't started any day this week. 10 minute wait, etc. will not work. Starts when it wants to. HELP!!! Anyone have any ideas on how to properly repair this chronic problem? ----NOTE----the problem is fixed. Cleaned the contacts on the BCM computer fuse. That's all it took. If your car is exhibiting symptoms exactly like mine did, I'd try that 1st.
