How to Blend Car Paint (Spot Repair)

This is a spot repair (blow in) on the front of a dodge bumper. This is a metallic blue being blended and partially cleared. The tape on the edges is known in the auto body repair trade as a back mask where the clear is blended on the roll of an edge. This is in no way a top quality repair, it is an economical repair suited best for used car lots and lease return vehicle. I must say they do still hold up pretty well when done properly. The bumper was polished with a coarse compound for the blender to adhere while the rest of the area that was cleared got sanded with 3000 grit paper, except the primer was 600.
This was a scratch originally that was feathered out and primed. For more information check out our website at www.refinishnetwork.com

How to Repair a Cracked Bumper
Visit http://www.refinishnetwork.com for more auto body repair information. This is a bumper repair on a Chrysler 300 that has a split in the rear bumper cover. Shown here is Kent Repair Epoxy adhesive, Evercoat Polyflex and BASF urethane primer.
To start the bumper is washed to inspect for further damages. There is a small tear that may not be visible on the video but there is a clear hole in the cover.
The hole is first tapered out on both sides and reinforced on the back and front with epoxy. The epoxy is sanded fairly straight with a DA sander but final blocked with flexible polyester putty. You can simply finish in epoxy and it would make for a better job, however it sands much tougher.

Car Damage Repair (Part 1)

The Epic Tale, of fixing a car, after some dunce taxi driver hits it.
Fortunately, the bumper, PHYSICALLY, is 100% undamaged! Cosmetically, it was a total mess.
Before I started this video, I got half the "Darlington Stripes" off if it, and in this segment, I remove the rest of them. Some scratches remain, and there's some chipped off paint. Tocuh-up painting is in the next part.
BEFORE SOMEONE SAYS IT:
No, I do NOT have the time, or money, to go though the hassles of insurace companies, getting it appraised, quoted, and replacing the bumper. The damage is fairly neglegable, and when it's done, it'll not be perfect, but will look like other parts of the car.
ALSO: Once all is done, the receipts for the materials will be sent to the cab company who was responsible. Fortunately, it's not going to be a major nightmare.
A ChipsAway repair - in 4 minutes!
Our customer had scuffed the courtesy car she had on loan from her main dealer. The excess she would have to pay for returning it unrepaired was enormous. A bodyshop repair would be not much cheaper - and need the car for much longer than the couple of days she still had the car on loan for. ChipsAway Cambridge sorted out a repair in the time available, saving her hundreds of pounds.
