2012 Mercedes-Benz S550 Test Drive & Luxury Car Video Review

The full sized luxury sedan car market has some really great cars including the Audi A8-L, the Lexus LS460-L, and the BMW 750iL. But the 2012 Mercedes S550 is at the top of the list. This vehicle combines a powerful yet fuel efficient power plant, comfortable ride, and high end technology into one beautiful package. The base price for the 2012 Mercedes-Benz S550 is $94,500.
The hugely powerful engine that lives in the S550 is a twin-turbo 4.6 liter V-8. This bad boy pumps out 429 horsepower and 516 lb-ft. of torque. All that power is transmitted to the wheels through a 7-speed automatic transmission. You can get the S550 in either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. 0-60 MPH is eclipsed in only 4.9 seconds. This is true sports car performance out of a large high-end luxury sedan. Fuel economy is surprisingly good at 15 MPG in the city and 25 MPG on the highway.
To provide a luxurious ride you would expect from a high-end luxury car, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz S550 has a few tricks up its sleeve. First the AIRMATIC active suspension is computer controlled and will adjust to the road conditions. There are 2 setting: Comfort and Sport. When you choose sports the car automatically lowers a bit to improve aerodynamics and the suspension tightens up. In Comfort mode the S550 provides a balanced enjoyable ride. In addition to AIRMATIC the 2012 Mercedes S550 has an Active Dampening System that will tailor the dampening force of the strut every time there is any wheel travel.
On the inside of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz S550 the driver and passenger are bathed in premium luxury. The seats are wrapped in supple leather. Up front the seats are both heated and ventilated for your pleasure. There is also an option to upgrade to message seats which are so very comfortable. Heck even the rear seats can come as 8-way power adjustable units. The Harman/Kardon LOGIC7 sound system is comprised of 15 speakers throughout the interior. This stereo has over 600 watts of music producing power. The S550 comes packed with every bit of technological goodie you need including: Bluetooth, Hard Drive Navigation, Satellite Radio, Rear Seat Entertainment, and more.
There are many more optional features and packages you can add to the 2012 Mercedes S550. This may be the top of the heap for the long-wheel base luxury sedan segment.

Mercedes can take the credit for practically inventing the Luxury SUV segment. The base price of the 2012 Mercedes ML350 is $48,990 and for that price you get the functionality of an SUV coupled with standard 4-MATIC AWD. If you need a 5 passenger vehicle and you want a luxury car, plus you need utility and AWD; then the Mercedes ML350 makes a great case.
Under the hood of the 2012 Mercedes ML350 is a 3.5 liter V-6 engine that produces 302 horsepower and 273 lb-ft. of torque. This is a 15% increase over the last model. Fuel economy is 17 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway. On the inside the ML350 is not overly simple nor is it overly sophisticated. The base model short wheelbase LS 460 starts at $67,630 with the top of the line AWD Long Wheelbase version bringing the price all the way up to $75,480.
The 2012 Lexus LS 460L is powered by a 4.6 liter V-8 engine that makes 380 horsepower and 367 lb-ft. of torque. The transmission is a slick shifting 8-speed automatic. The powerful engine and transmission help the LS 460L achieve 0-60 MPH in 5.4 seconds. Pretty great for a heavy full-size luxury sedan. Fuel economy is pretty good at 16 MPG in the city and 24 MPG on the highway.
The LS 460 host a whole bunch of great features and technology. From a driving and performance perspective the 2012 Lexus LS 460L features dual variable valve timing, an 8-speed transmission as mentioned above, variable gear ratio steering, electronic power steering, and direct injection. You can choose between RWD or AWD with enhanced traction control. The Lexus LS 460L has a sophisticated adaptive variable air suspension. This suspension relies on air springs that are controlled from inside the cabin. The driver can choose between three different suspension setting between sporty and luxurious.
On the outside the Lexus LS 460L looks the part of a full fledge luxury car. The paint hob features a wet-sanded finish that increases luster and depth. The headlights are HID with an Adaptive Front Lighting Feature. The taillights feature LEDs which are more noticeable than regular bulbs. The sport edition comes with huge 19-inch alloy rims along with a cool sporty grille. The technology found on the Lexus LS 460L is the best stuff that Toyota has to offer. You get dynamic radar cruise control, an advanced parking guidance system, intuitive park assist, SmartAccess, a backup camera, power trunk, touch screen navigation, and more.
The great thing about the 2012 Lexus LS 460 is that it has a great resale value and the vehicle is very dependable.

2012 Audi A8-L Test Drive & Car Review

On the outside the Audi A8 is beautiful from the grill all the way to the taillights, under the hood lies a powerful V-8 engine, and inside the driver and passengers are treated to an ultra luxurious experience. But owning a high end luxury car does not come cheap. The base model (normal wheelbase) has an MSRP of $78,750, while the Long Wheelbase version tested here starts at $84,700. But the ultimate 2012 Audi A8 is the Long Wheelbase edition with the W12 engine which starts at $133,500.
The 2012 Audi A8-L is powered by a 4.2 liter V-8 engine that produces 372 horsepower and 328 lb-ft. of torque. While not the most powerful car in the full sized luxury segment; the engine in combination with an 8-speed automatic transmission does a great job of putting the power down to the ground through standard Quattro all-wheel drive. The 2012 Audi A8-L can accelerate from 0-60 MPH in 5.8 seconds. Fuel economy is excellent with the A8 netting 18 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway. The engine is exposed which is great and there are wonderfully contrasting colors in the engine bay that really grab your attention.
On the outside the 2012 Audi A8 is a very stylish car which is sure to get you noticed. The massive chrome grill looks great and really stands out. The Xenon headlights combined with the world famous LED running lights are signature Audi. The A8 also has a set of huge 19-inch alloy wheels at all four corners.
On the inside the Audi A8 is plenty spacious with enough room for 4 adults and all their belongings. The A8-L is the long wheelbase version and this platform stretches the amount of interior room a couple more inches. The interior of the car makes you feel like you are in a luxurious living room. Everything is beautiful and Audi did a great job of finding the perfect balance between woods and metals that make up the trim pieces. All the buttons and controls are top notch since Audi understands what a luxury buyer demands. The A8-L is a real driver's car; it is response and fun to drive.
The 2012 Audi A8 is a true joy to drive. It you are going to spend $80k on a high end luxury car then you owe it to yourself to take a long test drive. When shopping for a full sized luxury automobile make a checklist and compare the various cars in the segment. Audi has really captured the essence of what a luxury car should be with the 2012 Audi A8-L.

Maybach was one of the world's most exquisite nameplates in the 1920s and '30s. The original company was founded by Karl Maybach — the son of Wilhelm Maybach, who developed the first Mercedes.
Some people were surprised when Maybachs returned in the form of two closely related, all-new ultraluxury sedans. Each posh sedan is filled with nearly every sort of comfort and convenience feature offered in a motorcar.
Ostensibly a product of DaimlerChrysler, Mercedes-Benz's parent company, the modern-day Maybach is actually considered a make of its own.
Maybachs come in two sizes: the regular Type 57 and the extended-length Type 62. Each model designation indicates the car's length in meters: 5.73 for the Type 57 and 6.17 for the Type 62. Special features include electronic braking and an Airmatic Dual Control air suspension.
A rearview parking-assist camera is available in the 2005 model. Standard equipment now includes Robbe & Berking beverage flutes and a handcrafted Dunhill Collection umbrella. Standard Sirius Satellite Radio includes a lifetime subscription.
Only one or two Maybachs per day are built at a state-of-the-art facility in Germany. Mercedes-Benz dealers must sign separate agreements to sell them.
Exterior
According to the manufacturer, Maybach styling balances classic and avant-garde features. The doors, hood and fenders are made of aluminum. Maybach says a primary goal was to deliver an "entirely new definition of first class."
Twelve body colors are available, and two-tone paint schemes may be specified. Bi-xenon headlights are standard. The regular-size Type 57 is 225.3 inches long overall, uses a 133.5-inch wheelbase and rides on 19-inch tires. A standard power-closing feature pulls the door shut from the first detent position.
Interior
As many as 100 items inside the Maybach are trimmed with exotic woods. Buyers can mix options with the immense standard-equipment list in numerous combinations. Available accessories include a luggage set, a sterling silver champagne goblet, a humidor, a golf bag and a fluffy travel rug. Buyers may choose from six Grand Nappa leather colors and three types of wood. All four standard seats are heated, and active seat ventilation is available.
Occupants can luxuriate in reclining rear seats. A television with a 9.5-inch TFT flat screen includes a DVD player. Interior features also include four-zone climate control with two air-conditioning units, a refrigerated compartment, a cordless phone with two handsets and a 21-speaker Bose Dolby sound system. Each sedan also has the Tele Aid emergency communication system and the Comand integrated control system, which are available for Mercedes-Benz vehicles.
Under the Hood
Breathing with the assistance of twin turbochargers, the 5.5-liter V-12 produces 550 horsepower and 663 pounds-feet of torque. It teams with a five-speed-automatic transmission. Maybach claims the Type 57 can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds.
Safety
Ten airbags, including two adaptive front airbags, four side-impact airbags, and front and rear side curtain-type airbags, are installed.
