Wissen Sie, woher der Name Aston Martin stammt? Lionel Martin und Robert Bramford konstruierten 1914 ihren ersten Wagen auf einem Isotta-Franschini-Chassis, mit einem 1,4-Liter-Coventry-Simplex-Motor. Das Gefährt erhielt den Namen Aston Martin: Aston für das Bergrennen in Aston Clinton, das Lionel Martin im Jahr zuvor gewonnen hatte.
Die 438 Zentimeter lange Karosserie des Vantage-Coupés besteht aus Aluminium und Verbundmaterial. Hinten und vorne weist sie knappe Überhänge auf. Die grossen 19-Zoll-Räder werden durch das eng anliegende Blech elegant kaschiert. Zum Öffnen wird der versenkte Türgriff zuerst angetippt und dann gezogen. Die Türen öffnen sich federleicht in einem 12-Grad-Winkel nach oben. Bei Aston Martin heisst so etwas «Schwanenflügel». Die Türen wie auch rund 65 Prozent der Bauteile stammen vom 2+2-sitzigen Bruder, dem DB 9.
Die Formensprache zieht sich auch nach vorne weiter: eine lange Motorhaube mit der klassisch-traditionellen Aston-Martin-Kühlerfront. Auch ohne anglophile Neigungen muss man dem Vantage zeitlose Schönheit zugestehen.
Intérieur
Schön ist auch der Innenraum, wo der Zweisitzer mit weiten Lederflächen, edlen und harmonisch ausgewählten Materialien überzeugt. Die tiefe Sitzposition ist sportwagenlike angenehm und der Körper ist gut gestützt. Die Primärinstrumente sind gegenläufig, aber gut einsehbar - eine Fortsetzung der Vantage Designsprache. Einzig die etwas eng liegenden Schalter der Mittelkonsole könnten etwas besser sortiert sein.
Technik
Zu grollendem Leben erweckt wird das V8-Triebwerk über den in der Mitte angeordneten Druckknopf. Das Aggregat liefert bei 7000 Touren eine beachtliche Leistung von 380 PS. Das maximale Drehmoment von 410 Newtonmetern liegt bei 5000 Touren an. Die starke Maschine ermöglicht so einen Sprint in fünf Sekunden auf Tempo 100 und lässt den 4,38 Meter langen Wagen bis zu 280 km/h schnell werden.
Fahrverhalten
Der Aston Martin V8 Vantage, neben dem Vanquish und dem DB9 das dritte Modell von Aston Martin, wird von einem 4,3-Liter-V8 angetrieben. Auf die Strasse kommt die Kraft nach dem Transaxle-Prinzip -- die Maschine ist als Front-Mittelmotor untergebracht, das Sechsgang-Schaltgetriebe sitzt über dem Heckantrieb. Das ermöglicht eine Gewichtsverteilung von 49:51 und damit gute Handlingeigenschaften. Damit der V8 nicht zu schwer wird, wurde die Karosserie aus Aluminium gefertigt. Jetzt wiegt er nur 1570 Kilogramm. Seine Leichtfüssigkeit wird zusätzlich durch die präzise Lenkung gefördert.
Fazit
Mit dem Vantage hat Aston Martin keinen puristisch-knochentrockenen Sportwagen auf die Räder gestellt. Seine Eleganz ist geschickt gepaart mit Schnelligkeit, Agilität und hohen fahrdynamischen Leistungen. Wermutstropfen: Man muss beim Kauf tief, tief, tief in die Tasche greifen.
