Replaced Components
The 1989-1993 Chrysler New Yorker is built with the following suspension components: 1989-1993 Chrysler New Yorker Air/Electronic/Magnetic Shock Absorbers (x2)- shocks that contain an air bladder or magnets whose dampening capabilities are controlled by the suspension control module. 1989-1993 Chrysler New Yorker Air Struts (x2)- struts that contain an air bladder whose dampening capabilities is controlled by the suspension control module; these have two functions. They connect the wheel of a vehicle to the driving surface in order to reduce the effects of vertical travel on a rough surface which controls the bounciness, and therefore comfort, of a vehicle. They also help maintain the vehicles correct ride height, especially whenever the amount of load put onto the vehicle changes. 1989-1993 Chrysler New Yorker Air Springs (x2)- commonly referred to as air bags, a plastic and rubber bag that is fitted on top of the strut that uses pressurized air as a cushion instead of a metal coil spring to hold a vehicle off of the ground and off of its wheels. These are the number one cause of all air suspension leaks. All air springs all go bad at about the same rate. If one is leaking, the others will not be far behind. For a proper repair, all of them need to be replaced at the same time. 1989-1993 Chrysler New Yorker Height Sensors (x2)- a linkage located near each wheel of a vehicle with any electronic suspension that, either mechanically or electronically, constantly measures the height of the vehicle, and reports this information back to the control module so that the computer can identify if changes in height need to be adjusted accordingly. The ride height sensor is a moving part, and like all moving parts, they will eventually wear out. 1989-1993 Chrysler New Yorker Air Lines- tubes that run from a compressor (air suspension) to the air struts which carry pressurized air to the air bags components in order to adjust the height of the vehicle, respectively. 1989-1993 Chrysler New Yorker Compressor- creates/sends pressurized to active suspension components. When the air suspension starts leaking, the compressor/pump starts working harder to try to keep the system inflated. By the time air suspension leaks down completely, sitting the vehicle on its tires, the compressor will either have failed or be well on its way to full failure. Buying replacement struts and taking the time to install them only to find out the compressor still needs to be replaced can be very frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive. 1989-1993 Chrysler New Yorker Dryer Assembly- used to keep moisture out of air lines and air springs in order to prevent freezing and internal cracking of these parts. Once air suspension starts leaking, moisture will build-up throughout the air system. Moisture damages the air suspension from the inside. The dryer will need to be replaced in order to eliminate the moisture and prevent any further damage. 1989-1993 Chrysler New Yorker Suspension Control Module- a computer which is responsible for the operations of the air suspension system and maintaining the vehicle’s correct ride height. 1989-1993 Chrysler New Yorker O-rings- Although they are the least expensive parts of the air suspension, they are responsible for maintaining the seal where all of the air lines connect. Be sure to replace the O-rings when repairing any air suspension system. Suspension Failure Signs
Your 1989-1993 Chrysler New Yorker may experience leaking or failed air suspension. If you know what to look for, it will help you properly diagnose whether your suspension is going bad, or is already a total failure. The most common sign is a sudden noticeable uneven height difference between different sides of the New Yorker. A sagging rear or front end opposite an inflated end is a tell-tale sign. Perhaps the New Yorker is leaning from the left or right side. Often the entire body looks like it’s squatting down lower than usual A couple other signs can tell you if your suspension is working properly, or if it needs to be fixed. One universal symptom is a lit up suspension warning light or message on the instrument cluster of the New Yorker. A non-working air compressor is another clue. Alternatively, an air compressor running too often is also a bad sign (it will be noisy and obvious). When your New Yorker experiences a total failure of suspension it will not be able to meet and maintain its proper ride height. You need to get a repair or replacement ASAP because the vehicle is not safe to drive.
Why StrutmastersWhen your 1989-1993 Chrysler New Yorker has a failed suspension, you have a few options. The most expensive option is direct replacement of air suspension system at the Chrysler dealer. Here at Strutmasters, we are The Suspension Experts. We know all about the complicated parts and electrical components that frequently fail in the New Yorker air suspension system. That is why we created our air to non-air conversion kits. We use only the highest quality parts, but our customers tell us the main reason most of them make the “switch” over to our conversion kit is because of the low price. Each kit includes two premium Eibach springs, two rear shocks, and two mounts. Our kits are the ONLY suspension kits on the market that include Eibach springs. The kit is installed quickly, taking only about one hour per wheel. It is created with DIYers in mind. This kit will save you a lot of money and time that can be better spent enjoying your like-new New Yorker ride!
