This is a pair of weld in subframe connectors that will fit 1970-1977 Ford Mavericks and 1971-1977 Mercury Comet 2 doors. (contact me for 4 door versions) They are made from 1 1/2" x .120" wall square tubing. These subframe connectors will greatly increase the chassis rigidity by connecting the front and rear subframes. I personally build these connectors in my fabrication shop in West Texas. Made in the U.S.A!!!

-WELDING AND FITTING REQUIRED!!

Maverick /Comet Subframe Connector InstallationInstructions:

This is set of weld in sub frame connectors. They will fit1970-1977 Mavericks and, Comets. Due to the varying assembly line tolerancesthat these cars were made with, they may not be a perfect fit every time. Everyeffort was made in the prototyping process to allow them to fit as many yearsand models as possible. The dimensions which were settled upon were deemed thebest for use. The instructions for installation are as followed:

The connectors are tack welded together for shipping. Thetack welds are easily ground off with an angle grinder.

  1. The best way to install these is with the use ofa drive on vehicle lift in which all four tires are supported as the vehicle israised into the air. Such a lift is found in muffler and automotive repairshops. If such a lift is not available the vehicle will need to be raisedefficiently to allow welding of the connectors, either by placing the car onramps or jack stands on a nice level surface. Jack stands should be placedunder the rear differential housing and front lower control arms so that thevehicle weight is resting on its suspension. Failure to do this could cause thechassis to twist out of position and cause body alignment problems.

  2. The connectors are marked right and left and topand bottom. The front of the connector is one with a 45 degree angle cut at theend. The right side connector is the one with the parking brake cable pivot tabwelded to it. The right side connector will have the parking brake cable pivottab facing the front, and on the inside of the connector. The front of both connectors ( right andleft) will weld to the bottom of the front subframe 9 1/2" back from the rear edge of thetransmission crossmember floor brace. The rear of the connectors (right andleft) weld to the bottom of the rear subframe next to the leaf spring. There issome freedom as to where the connector will weld to the front and rearsubframes as far as the side to side placement goes. They can be welded rightin the center of the front and rear subframes or at the inside or outside edgeof the subframes.

    3. Since theparking brake pivot hole will be covered with the right side subframeconnector, a tab is welded to the inside front edge of the right side connectorto allow the parking brake pivot to re-attach. The parking brake cables shouldbe routed under the subframe connectors and the parking brake cable pivotshould be hooked into the tab. Re-adjust the parking brake cable for properopperation.

    4. Grind all paint, rust or undercoating fromareas where the connector will weld to the front and rear frame rails. Use atleast a 130 AMP mig welder for best results. Weld all vertical and horizontalareas with the connector where the connector touches the front frame rail seatbrace and the rear frame rail. A good rust inhibiting primer should be sprayed.Followed by a good coat of paint.
